PUNTA BRAVO BEACH
Description
Punta Brava is a long, winding stretch of sandy beach adorned with seashells. The only direct access to this area is through the security gates at the Grand Velas or El Dorado Royale resort. Beyond the entrance lies a tropical jungle and over 1½ km (1 mile) of coastline at Punta Brava Beach. To mitigate the strong waves, artificial sandbars made of burlap sacks have been constructed along the shore. Unfortunately, these sandbars not only detract from the natural beauty but have also eliminated one of the area's rare bodysurfing spots.
